Albir – Playa de Raco & Altea Bay

Albir lies just North of Benidorm on the road to Altea. Behind it lie the imposing range of the Bernia mountains with their jagged summits and on the Mediterranean border lie the Sierra Helada (ice mountain).
There is a path to the lighthouse, situated on top of this range that leads up from the beach. It is a modern cosmopolitan town, with low rise buildings, flowers,  and wide tree lined avenues. Many older people from northern Europe have made it their home.
There are an abundance of restaurants and cafes lining the main street that leads down to the seafront, where you will find a pebble beach and the clearest torquoise sea. The bay is a popular place for watersports and there is always something to watch from the beachside cafes, with superb views of Altea and Calpe in the distance. On summer nights a little craft market can be found there and a special open air film festival is staged every year on the beach, next to the promenade of stars, just like the one in Hollywood.
There is also a superb ‘Fundacion’ building which hosts art exhibitions and concerts and the remains of a roman settlement, which is now a fascinating museum.
