It may be time for Wimbledon in the UK and the famous strawberries and cream, but here on the Costa Blanca, we have been eating delicious strawberries for weeks and now they have been replaced in the supermarkets and markets with cherries!
Huge juicy fruit at incredibly low prices, probably because they are grown right here in a place known as the cherry valleys and they don’t have far to travel. Local tour buses sometimes arrange a day out to see these beautiful valleys, with a chance to buy some fruit fresh from the orchards. These valleys have the perfect climate to grow cherries, with cold winters and snow often cutting off the little villages. Then comes the warm spring sunshine to melt the snow and irrigate the land.
A day in the mountains is certainly worth doing; it makes you realise just how much more there is to this beautiful area.
Life is just a bowl of cherries!
